Pr HDR, Agrégé de génie mécanique de l’ENS Cachan, Docteur de l’ENSAM Paris, Claude Barlier, specializing in Additive Manufacturing and in the digital pipeline of Rapid Product Development, was a Professor of Superior Chair in Math Spé Technologique until 1998 and then Professor of Exceptional Class, of the Institut Mines-Telecom, until 2016.
In the 1980s, his research work was the origin of the patented Stratoconception® Additive Manufacturing process and the patented Actarus® machining monitoring system.
In 1991, based on his patented work, he created and has since directed the CIRTES SA in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, a SRC that has become a leader in Additive Manufacturing (rapid prototyping and tooling) and advanced machining.
In 2000, he created the spin-off Actarus SAS and then with Mines Nancy and Mines Albi, he initiated the GIP-InSIC Engineering School, Institut Supérieur d’Ingénierie de la Conception, which he directed since the creation until December 2015.
In 2010, he creates, with 20 associated industrial and financial partners, the nationally labeled Plate-Forme d’Innovation INORI SAS, which he has chaired since.
He is in fact the founder of VirtuReal® “from the Virtual, to the Real, …”, the Rapid Product Development cluster, in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges, a European cluster of excellence that combines today on the same site all these complementary structures, from research to industrialization.
Author of numerous patents and publications, several reference books and software in mechanics to Dunod, Casteilla and Foucher Editions, he coordinated the collective work Referential “design in industrial mechanics” to DUNOD Editions. He is the initiative and co-author of the reference book on Additive Manufacturing, published by DUNOD in September 2015.
His research work is now recognized and widely disseminated internationally, it is the subject of awards and regularly European projects, important industrial partnerships and licensing. He is the originator of the patented 3D digital packaging process: Pack&Strat®.

As a Corresponding Fellow since February 2010, he was elected Full Member of the Academy of STANISLAS in 2014.
