Rapid Prototyping usually resorts to layered manufacturing processes.
Several methods are currently being developed :

• They use basic materials (liquid, solid or powder)
• They entail the design of new machines.

CIRTES is putting forward its own solution : Stratoconception®.

STRATOCONCEPTION® is a patented Rapid Prototyping process. It consists in the decomposition of a part by calculating a set of simple elementary layers called "strata", into which reinforcing pieces and inserts are placed. The elementary layers are identified and directly made through rapid and basic processes (micromilling, laser-cutting, water-jet-cutting, numerically controlled machine tool...) from sheet materials. These elementary layers are then assembled to build the final object. It is currently the only process able to build large mechanical prototypes made of any kinds of sheet materials.
